The Plumbing Industry Climate Action Centre (PICAC) hosted its annual event on Friday 9 March 2018 at PICAC Brunswick.
PICAC’s CEO, Shayne La Combre, was elected to Chair the World Plumbing Council in 2016, showcasing PICAC’s strong commitment to supporting the World Plumbing Council, World Plumbing Day and the plumbing industry.
The theme for this year’s Industry Forum was “Participation, Practices, Products and Protection: The four pillars of plumbing”. The Industry Forum included presentations from Shayne La Combre, CEO of PICAC and Chair of the World Plumbing Council; The Hon. James Merlino, Minister for Education; Sue Eddy, CEO Victorian Building Authority; Earl Setches, Chair PICAC and State and Federal Secretary of PPTEU together with Clint Patzack of Geothermal Exchange; Aidan Ward, Community Plumbing Challenge 2017 Team Member; and Mark Watt, CEO and Co-Founder of Whitelion. Rowan Morton and Andrew Fabb competed in the United Association’s Apprentice Skills Contest 2017 in Michigan, USA. Rowan and Andrew were presented with their Rings.
This year, PICAC organised a live cross with Ryan Marsh who is the Deputy Chief Plumbing Expert at Worldskills International to discuss the current water crisis in Cape Town where Ryan is a resident.
The annual World Plumbing Day Plumbing and Sprinkler Fitting Apprentice Skills Contest is open to 3rd and 4th year apprentices in both fields. This year, six sprinkler fitters and ten plumbers participated in the contest.
The contest began at 6:00 am and concluded with an Awards presentation at 2:30 pm. Congratulations once again to all the contestants who participated in the Apprentice Skills Contest.

Finalists of both contests have the chance to be selected to go on to compete in the United Association International Apprentice Skills Contest held in Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA.
Attendees had the opportunity to participate in a Q & A session, with Aidan Ward and Greg Tink, about their involvement in The Community Plumbing Challenge in Indonesia, 2017.
